Abstract

In the second half of the eighteenth century various legislative initiatives, culminating in the Royal Decree of 1793, to increase the area under cultivation and production, decrease the overwhelming presence of grasslands and ensure access to property launched an large social group. Enclosures and new plantings spread the private uses versus collective uses. Changes that contributed to transform the agricultural landscape of Extremadura. The success of these measures and the resistance generated application we address in this work.

         

Author Biography

  • Alfonso Rodríguez Grajera, University of Extremadura

    Graduate and Doctor in History from the University of Extremadura, where he has developed his teaching and research career since 1983. He has participated and continues to participate in various national and regional research projects. His research has focused on the demographic and economic-social history of Extremadura during the 17th and 18th centuries, aspects to which he has devoted several books, book chapters and articles. Without abandoning this theme, in recent years he has paid special attention to the analysis of the Castilian taxation of the 1600s, especially the growth of salt; The result of this is a book and several articles in indexed journals.
