The Portuguese colonial expansion in the vicinity of the Río de la Plata border brought serious disputes. An endemic conflict that contravened the stability enacted in Tordesillas. The founding of Colonia del Sacramento simplified all Luso-Brazilian aspirations in its staggered policy of expansion through Rio Grande do Sul. However, it also represented the Spanish political ineffectiveness in controlling its borders with Brazil. Reason why the demand for information for its knowledge was constant in the late seventeenth century and much of the eighteenth. This scheme can be amplified and compared with the case of Olivenza. Another model of border enclave located in La Raya peninsular. Still, what can territories in such disparate confines have in common? In order to understand the evolution of these spaces, the present work will contemplate political, topographic, polyorcetic and historical factors. Determinants when it comes to specifying the military functions adopted to control their respective borders.
