Abstract

This article aims to study the influence and the transmission of the Libro de doctrina christiana, a pedagogical treatise written by the castilian priest Gutierre González Doncel in the 16th century. It was written in Rome and it was sent to Castile to be used in a school for the Christian doctrine, which was established in Jaén. From this Castilian town, the treatise arrived in the West Indes. There it influenced Vasco de Quiroga and Friar Juan de Zumárraga in New Spain, besides the Franciscan missionaries in Brazil.
