Without abandoning other previous lines of research, studies on the border focus their interest on the present. The result of this has been the publication of two books (Treasury, trade and smuggling on the border of Portugal (15th-18th centuries). Cáceres, 1999, 320 pp.; The tentacles of the Hydra. Smuggling and militarization of public order in Spain (1784-1800). Madrid, 2009, 454 pp.) and a series of articles on issues related to cross-border commercial exchanges, smuggling, and the processes of surveillance and control of the territory on the periphery of the Hispanic Monarchy. He currently directs the National R&D Plan project "Dynamics of borders in periods of conflict. The Spanish Empire (1640-1815" (HAR2014-52233-P).
