Abstract

This paper analyses the role played by the School of Arabic Studies in Granada in the development of Spanish Arabism, in the Cultural Politics of Francoism, and in the consolidation of cultural relations between Spain and Morocco from its inception in 1932 to the early fifties. The purpose of these pages is to rescue and to value the history of the institution and its contribution to bilateral relations. In this respect, It is expected that its history and its activities will be known by Moroccans and Spaniards and reach a larger diffusion.

Author Biography

  • Miriam Gracia Mechabal, University of Granada

    PhD student at the University of Granada and member of the research group "Natural Sciences in Muslim Andalusia" of the School of Arab Studies (CSIC) of Granada. He graduated in Arabic Philology at the University of Seville, where he also did postgraduate studies on Interculturality and the Arab-Islamic World. She is currently doing a research stay at the School of Arab Studies, where she was a researcher in training (FPI), to finish her doctoral thesis. His lines of research include studies on the natural sciences in al-Andalus and the role of the School of Arab Studies in Spanish-Moroccan relations.
